Helping to spread awareness empowering those affected by Keratoconus

Living With Keratoconus

Living with Keratoconus.org is exactly what it sounds like. A site dedicated to living with KC from someone who has lived with the condition for over two decades.

Not only can Living With Keratoconus.org be a place for those that have been newly diagnosed with keratoconus, but, by the same token, those that have been coping with KC for as long as I have, will find a place here as well.

In addition, there are those that are not affected with KC, but have someone in their lives living with KC and want to support them:

  • What is Keratoconus?
  • Will my loved one/ go blind?
  • What are the different treatments?
  • Are there any long-term prognoses and complications of keratoconushttps?
  • Can we still drive at night with keratoconus?

Equally as important, is to understand the mental strain that keratoconus can have on those of us that have KC and those closest to us. A much-overlooked side issue resulting from KC is depression and isolation.

To understand KC we need to understand the physical condition, together with the mental health facet, as it relates to KC and living with it.

Knowing we’re not alone makes all the difference in the world. Listening to others who are going or went through similar experiences with KC can shed a light on the unknown.

It can be a lonely place. When no one understands what living with keratoconus is doing to us. We look fine. Most of us are not walking into walls or stepping into oncoming traffic.

Friends, teachers, co-worker’s, family members, spouses even some doctors may think we are exaggerating the situation.

No one can know what it’s like except someone who has KC.  It’s lonely of course… you are not alone.
